A native of Texas, Mary Victoria Kerr has been a semi-finalist, finalist, and prize winner for such competitions as the Concert Artist Guild International Competition, the Astral Artist Competition, the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition, and the winner of the El Paso Symphony Guild’s Young Artist Competition. In 2012, Ms. Kerr was named a First Prize Winner for the Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition where she performed her solo debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She has been featured as a guest artist at the 2013 Southwest Flute Festival and Texas A&M Commerce Masterclass series.

Active as an orchestral and chamber musician, Ms. Kerr is currently principal flutist for the Abilene Philharmonic. In addition, she has performed with the Detroit Symphony, Forth Worth Symphony, South Florida Symphony, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, and Novus New York in which she was featured on Medici Television, National Public Radio, and the premiere recording of Elena Ruehr’s “Cricket, Spider, Bee” with the Trinity Wall Street Choir. She has performed in many prestigious music festivals in the U.S. and abroad including Spoleto USA, AIMS in Graz, Austria, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Round Top Festival, Yale at Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Lake Luzerne Chamber Music Festival, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Along with this, she has played under the batons of Carl St. Clair, Philippe Entremont, John Nelson, Alan Gilbert, Bernard Haitink, Robert Spano, and composer/conductor John Williams.

As an educator, Ms. Kerr maintains a private studio in the DFW area and is on the Flute and Chamber Music Faculty at the Luzerne Music Center in Upstate New York during the summers.

Ms. Kerr holds degrees from the University of Southern California, Manhattan School of Music, and received a Doctorate of Music from Stony Brook University. She is greatly indebted to her teachers Mary-Len Stanton, Melissa Colgin-Abeln, Jim Walker, Linda Chesis, and Carol Wincenc.

Ms. Kerr resides in Dallas, TX with her husband Billy and two cats, Bernie and Carmensita.
